Track 33:  Integrated Student Life Cycle Management Systems

Today efficient and effective Student Life Cycle Management (SLCM) is a critical success factor for European universities and other higher education institutions. The number of students rises, often many parallel degree programs must be managed, more guest students must be administered and more own students study abroad for a while and take courses abroad. Generally most students expect better administrative services and comprehensive learning scenarios. Due to higher study fees in Europe students upgrade their demands. SLCM processes include information of potential students, students’ application, management of courses and examinations, management of Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. degrees, alumni services and faculty HR management. Up to date SLCM systems must be highly integrated and must provide a single sign on. Up to date SLCM systems also must have interfaces to loosely couple other information systems, e. g. of libraries, of computer pools or of computer centers, or CO/FI/HR/Data Warehouse software of a central administration. Interfaces to Learning Management and Groupware systems are very important. Synchronization with Office Software on PCs/Laptops and PDAs/Smartphones of both students and instructors becomes more and more important.

Possible topics:
  • Modeling and optimization of SLCM processes, workflows and organizations
  • Implementation and migration of SLCM systems and reorganization of SLCM organizations
  • Critical success factors for migration and reorganization
  • Cost/benefit-analyses and ROI for SLCM systems
  • New developments and trends for SLCM systems, e. g. alumni services, monitoring of teaching duties and teaching loads and evaluation of teaching and research quality
  • International comparison of SLCM systems, best practices, success stories, worst cases, lessons learned etc. for SLCM systems and processes in universities and other higher education institutions
  • Distributed information systems and SLCM interfaces in universities and other higher education institutions
